My sons been taking karate for 18 months, and every time he tests for the next rank (hes up to his blue belt now), fewer kids who started with him as white belts test alongside him. Its not that Matthews necessarily a better athlete than they are, but karate is more important to him. He likes learning the forms, and he enjoys surviving a two hour, physically grueling test knowing that most of his friends would have been flattened in the first 20 minutes. When aspiring writers start identifying themselves as authors, just as Matthew sees himself as a martial artist, theyve taken that first big step toward success.
Myth 1: I dont want to get too bigOften time, women who start lifting weights say that they do not want to get big to their trainers. For as long as I have been personal training, probably every other female client that I have trained as told me that. Many times women see images of female bodybuilders in popular fitness magazines (virtually all of them are chemically enhanced) think that they will end up very muscular looking when they put a hand on a dumb bell. This is simply not true. This is because women do not have the same level of testosterone as men.
These questions can be looked at once a year, once a month or whenever youre looking for some direction in your life. I invite you to take a good hard look at your life more than once a year. Youll get a lot more out of your life if youre more conscious about what youre creating. Some of the questions werent developed by me and many are from a terrific book called Your Best Year Yet: Ten Questions for Making the Next Twelve Months Your Most Successfull Ever by Jinny S. Ditzler. I highly recommend it if you want to go a little deeper.
Exercise equipment. Nothing says, I think you could stand to lose weight like a Stairmaster. The same goes for a set of barbells, a Pilates instructional video, or a gym membership. Even if shes talked about getting fit, this kind of gift will make her wonder whether you like her body the way it is. If you really would like to see her exercising more, lead by example. Join the gym yourself. Chances are, when she sees how great you look and feel, shell be inspired to join as well. You could also take up a physical activity you could do as a couple, such as cycling, jogging, or hiking.
